* UPDATE * Eagles practice reveals promising updates on injured starters and a Nolan Smith sighting

The Eagles held their second practice of the week Thursday in South Philadelphia ahead of Sunday's game against the Vikings in Minnesota.

UPDATE:The Eagles listed tight Grant Calcaterra (oblique) as out of practice Thursday. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter (heel) and guard Landon Dickerson (ankle) were limited participants. Linebacker Zack Baun (thumb), defensive tackle Jordan Davis (shoulder) and cornerback Quinyon Mitchell (hamstring) were all listed as full participants.

PHILADELPHIA — It was a good sign Wednesday when the Eagles took the practice field and three of their injured players were participating in the team stretch.

The best news of all involved Jalen Carter. The star defensive tackle sat out of the Eagles’ Week 6 loss to the Giants with a heel injury, but was a full participant Wednesday and said afterward that he’d be ready to go Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

It was also good that cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and offensive guard Landon Dickerson were on the field, but they were both limited participants and exactly what that meant was uncertain because the Eagles closed practice to the media immediately after the team was done with its stretch.

That meant nobody got to see if Mitchell, who left the game against the Giants in the second quarter with a hamstring injury, was participating in individual drills with the cornerbacks. And nobody got to see if Dickerson, who missed the game against the Giants with an ankle injury, was going through individual blocking drills with the other offensive linemen.

Practice remained open to the media for a longer period Thursday and both Mitchell and Dickerson did, in fact, go through individual drills with their teammates. Exactly how they will be listed on the practice report will not be known until early this evening.

One player not seen on the practice field for the second straight day was tight end Grant Calcaterra, who left the Eagles’ game against the Giants with an oblique injury.

Starting edge rusher Nolan Smith was also out on the practice field Thursday for the first time since being placed on injured reserve with a triceps injury. He was seen working with cornerback Jakorian Bennett (pectoral injury) and wide receiver Darius Cooper (shoulder), both of whom are also on injured reserve. All three are eligible to be removed from IR next week.

One other practice observation from Thursday: Jihaad Campbell was working with the linebackers rather than edge rushers during individual drills. There was some thought he might get more defensive snaps on the edge after veteran Za’Darius Smith’s surprising retirement Monday.
