SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The No. 2 Water Valley Wildcats kick off district play in week eight.
Only a small handful of Concho Valley high school football teams remain unbeaten through week eight. One of them is Water Valley, which is set to begin district action at Veribest.
The Wildcats hold their number two spot in the latest state rankings, entering the week with a perfect 6-0 record in non-district play. The Wildcats cruised through their non-district schedule, winning each game in mercy rule fashion. To cap off non-district action, Water Valley silenced then-No. 10 Rankin, 68-20 in week six.
Coming off their bye week, the Wildcats’ mentality remains the same heading into their district opener. The practice agenda revolves around fundamentals, in the visions of the coaches and players.
“The main thing is taking care of the football, blocking and tackling,” Wildcats head coach Trey Sisco said. “That’s kind of what we work on every week to get better at. And if we do that, I think everything else takes care of itself.”
“[Practice] has been pretty much the same, making sure [players are] getting [their] fundamentals down,” Wildcats lineman Hayden Kolster said. “[It’s also] running through the plays, making sure they’re perfect to prepare for our district run.”
The Wildcats’ quest for a second consecutive district title officially kicks off at 7:30 p.m. CST on Friday, Oct 17 at Falcon Field in Veribest, Texas.
