LANHAM, Md. (DC News Now) — Another Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) high school has forfeited football games after ineligible players participated in multiple varsity football games.
PGCPS confirmed to DC News Now on Thursday the results of an investigation into DuVal High School in Lanham, Md.
The Office of Interscholastic Athletics found that the following ineligible players had participated in varsity football games:
- Players with insufficient academic standing.
- Players who participated in both junior varsity and varsity games within the same week.
- A transfer student who was never listed on the team roster submitted to the Office of Interscholastic Athletics.
According to regulations with PGCPS and the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association, the high school will forfeit games in which the ineligible players participated.
PGCPS also suspended the head coach from all coaching duties for the rest of the school year.
“Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) has zero tolerance for violations of athletic eligibility and participation rules. All athletes, coaches, and staff are expected to uphold standards that ensure fairness and integrity in interscholastic competition,” PGCPS said, in part, in a statement.
