Real Madrid appear set to part ways with veteran duo at the end of the season

According to Mundo Deportivo, it seems increasingly unlikely that Real Madrid will offer contract extensions to their veteran defenders, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba. 

Both players’ current deals expire at the end of the season, and all signs point to the club allowing them to leave on free transfers, mirroring the way they originally arrived at the Bernabeu.

The club has already started looking for a new centre-back in the transfer market for next season. This clearly signals that the future of both Rudiger and Alaba at Real Madrid is uncertain. 

Among the two, Alaba’s departure appears more probable. The Austrian defender had an open door this summer if he wished to leave, but chose to stay and complete the final year of his contract. 

Reports suggest that the club is not planning to make him a renewal offer, so unless there is a surprise, Alaba is expected to leave in the summer.

Rudiger’s future still up in the air

Rudiger has reportedly received offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia but has prioritised staying at Real Madrid. He has even expressed willingness to accept a renewal if the club presented one. 

Club officials and Xabi Alonso are happy with his performances, but ongoing injury concerns could influence the final decision regarding his future. As of now, Real Madrid have not made a definitive call on the German defender.

What is clear, however, is that strengthening the central defence remains a priority for next season. 

Names such as Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate are already being linked with the Bernabeu, with both players expected to arrive on free transfers. 

Real Madrid’s focus on youth, potential, and injury-free options shows a clear plan to refresh their defensive line while preparing for the challenges of the 2026/27 campaign.
