3 potential X-factors on the New York Jets defense vs. the Carolina Panthers in Week 7

Identifying three potential X-factors for the New York Jets defense against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7.

The New York Jets put forth a stellar defensive performance in Week 6's overseas 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Head coach Aaron Glenn's defense held the Broncos under 200 yards of offense. They'll need to repeat that performance on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7 if they hope to pick up their first victory of the 2025 campaign.

We've identified three potential X-factors for the Jets' defense versus the rebuilding Panthers.

Jarvis Brownlee, CB

New Jets cornerback Jarvis Brownlee officially announced his arrival in last Sunday's loss to the Broncos. Brownlee had a team-high defensive grade of 90.4, per Pro Football Focus. He allowed just 22 receiving yards. With Sauce Gardner likely drawing the Tetairoa McMillan matchup, the 24-year-old CB will be tasked with the more favorable matchups.

Kiko Mauigoa, LB

Rookie linebacker Kiko Mauigoa had eight tackles in Week 6. He continues to fill in admirably for Quincy WIlliams, who remains on IR. Panthers running back Rico Dowdle has been on an absolute tear lately. Mauigoa must continue playing an aggressive, downhill brand of football.

Malachi Moore, S

Rookie safety Malachi Moore arguably enjoyed his best showing last week. Moore's PFF defensive grade of 70.9 versus the Broncos was easily a career-high mark for him. With McMillan playing so well, the Jets need their safeties to provide over-the-top help.
