Shae Cornette has become the new host of ESPN’s “First Take.” The sports program is widely known among the masses due to the interesting opinions of Stephen A. Smith and Molly Qerim. However, Qerim left the show in September abruptly, apparently due to a contract expiry. Now, Cornette has stepped into her shoes and is expressing excitement for her journey ahead.

Shae Cornette will join ESPN’s “First Take” on November 3 after fulfilling her commitment at “SportsCenter” at the end of this month. As per Variety, the anchor is eagerly looking forward to her new stint. She stated, “I feel ready to step into this role and know I can add to the already successful brand that First Take is.” Cornette further added, “My journey at ESPN has been one of growth, challenge, and opportunity.”
“First Take’s’ energy, perspective and passion represents everything I love about sports,” she continued. Cornette concluded, “I’m excited to bring more of that to the debate desk every weekday morning.” Moreover, former host Molly Qerim also expressed faith in Cornette serving as her replacement. The 41-year-old said in prepared remarks, “Hosting ‘First Take’ is no easy assignment. It requires confidence, toughness, and real sports insight — and Shae brings all of that and more.”
Qerim further explained, “I’ve seen her command the desk with poise and passion every time she’s hosted.” “She’s the real deal, and I’m thrilled to have her officially join the team,” she continued. Besides Qerim, ESPN’s executive vice president and executive editor of sports news and entertainment, David Roberts showered Cornette with praise. He said the anchor is “meticulous in her preparation, connects naturally with our show’s high-profile personalities, and has a unique ability to keep lively debate engaging and on point,”.
Roberts also said, “Her professionalism, presence, and energy make her an ideal fit for ‘First Take’ and a great addition to one of ESPN’s most successful franchises. Talking more about Cornette, she has worked at the Big Ten Network and The Chicago Huddle. She joined ESPN in 2020 and anchored “SportsCenter.” Her other stints include Fox 32, Campus Insiders, SiriusXM NFL Radio, and ESPN Radio.
