Manchester City goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has opened up on his relationship with Reece James during his time at Chelsea.

Bettinelli joined City this summer as a third choice goalkeeper for Pep Guardiola’s side, but has yet to make an appearance for the club.

The 33-year-old was an important figure in the Chelsea dressing room, but he only made one appearance for the Blues during his four years at the club.

Enzo Maresca has managed his minutes carefully and deserves credit for his role in James’ recovery, whilst the player has shown brilliant resilience.

James has shown he’s able to play in multiple roles including midfield, whilst he also played centre back in the second half against Liverpool, and Bettinelli believes the 25-year-old could play anywhere.

“Reece James is a scandal,” he told the Fozcast.

“If you ask any footballer that has played with RJ or seen him at England, Reece is frightening.

“He can play anywhere. I’m not joking, he can play anywhere.”

James pulled out of the England squad after the Liverpool game, but Maresca has confirmed he’s fully fit for Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest.

Reece James back to his best

It’s taken a long time to get James fit again, but it finally feels like the Chelsea captain is back to something near his best.
