Mount Gilead having best football season since 1994, plus other results from the area

Here are some Week 9 high school football results from around the Marion area.

The last time Mount Gilead won eight football games in a season was in 1994. The latest edition joined that group after a 28-21 victory over Loudonville Oct. 17 in Week 9 football.

Next week when MG plays at Cardington, it will have a chance to join the 1993 squad for the most wins in school history. According to Joe Eitel's high school football playoff website, Mount Gilead has already earned a playoff berth in Division VI's Region 23, just the second in school history, the first coming in 2022.

In the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference road game at Loudonville (3-6, 1-5), MG jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never trailed.

Carson Barnum paced Mount Gilead (8-1, 5-1) with 261 yards on 32 carries for two touchdowns. Tyler Harr also scored two touchdowns, getting 31 yards on seven carries, while Brogan Pfleiderer added seven touches for 59 yards. All 383 yards came on the ground for MG. The Redbirds had 272 total yards with just 86 running.

"Loudonville is much improved and to give them credit, they battled with a lot of heart," MG coach Mike Reid said. "My kids have heart too. They handled some adversity tonight and were still able to get stops when we needed. Offensively, I love how we came out and established dominance on the line of scrimmage."
