Premier League legend Alan Shearer's backed Erling Haaland to shatter his all time scoring record provided the Manchester City striker remains in English football long enough.

Haaland 25 has already scored astonishing 94 goal in 104 Premier League games since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

At his current scoring rate, he's well on course to challenge Shearer’s long standing record of 260 goal which the Newcastle United icon amassed between Blackburn Rovers (112) & Newcastle (148).

"He’s the perfect No9"

Speaking to The Sun, Shearer was full of praise for the Norwegian striker’s extraordinary consistency & predatory instincts.

"Yes I believe Haaland will break my record, He’s the perfect striker his record's unbelievable, his hunger to score is relentless. He’s quick, strong, agile and reacts faster than most players inside the 6 yard box. His finishing ability is incredible" Shearer said.

The Premier League’s greatest ever goalscorer described Haaland as the model modern No9 and believes it’s only matter of time before the City forward claims the top spot in the all time scoring charts.

Timeline to history

Haaland would need another 166 PL goals to overtake Shearer’s record , a target that could be within reach in 6 to 8 season if he maintains his current output.

"If he stays in the Premier League for 6, 7, maybe 8 more year , maybe even less he'll have great chance" Shearer added.

Guardiola factor

However Shearer also cautioned that several variables could affect the outcome , most notably the future of Pep Guardiola who's built system perfectly suited to Haaland’s strengths.

"There're still many uncertainties. What happens if Guardiola leaves? There're always unknowns, But if Haaland remains here for another 6 or 7 year, he'll definitely break my record" Shearer warned.

Erling Haaland is already rewriting Premier League history at blistering pace. If he stays in England and continues scoring as he's since 2022 surpassing Alan Shearer’s legendary 260 goal record isn't question of if but "when".
