The New York Jets, after their 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos, dropped to 0-6, and look to be sure-fire sellers at the 2025 NFL trade deadline. While there are plenty of options who could be on the move, two names stand out on the Jets roster.
Of the Jets players who've been in trade rumors, Breece Hall has been a frequently brought-up name, and so has Jermaine Johnson. Both are garnering interest around the NFL, and a new report further corroborates the trade speculation growing around both.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Jets are receiving trade calls for Hall, and more interestingly, Johnson. While Hall's trade might be more likely, the trade talks surrounding Johnson are the much more interesting talks the Jets are having ahead of the deadline.
Jets are receiving trade calls for Jermaine Johnson less than a month before the deadline
"The Jets are already getting calls on linebacker Jermaine Johnson and running back Breece Hall," Russini reports.
Johnson is a very interesting trade candidate for the Jets. While Hall is on an expiring contract this year, becoming a free agent after 2025, Johnson is signed through the 2026 season.
In short, the Jets don't have to trade Johnson at his years trade deadline. But, the fact that teams are calling about him, and the Jets are listening, means that a much more compelling trade could go through for New York.
Aaron Glenn is rebuilding this team, and with the 0-6 record and sluggish start, it is looking like a long-term rebuild. If Johnson isn't going to be a part of said rebuild, and the Jets can get strong value for him at this year's deadline, then a trade makes a lot of sense.
Of course, the Jets won't accept just anything for Johnson. He's a 26-year-old pass rusher who has been banged up this season, but when he's healthy, he's a very strong option along the defensive front.
In 2023, Johnson was a Pro Bowler with 7.5 sacks to go with 55 tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble to round out a strong second year in the NFL.

His 2024 season was cut short due to injury, playing only two games, and he missed the first few games of the 2025 season as well. But, even though he's struggled to stay on the field, a young pass rusher with an extra year of control is a very appealing trade target.
Aside from the extra year of control and the potential he's flashed when on the field, Johnson is also relatively cheap as he's still on his rookie deal, and will be on his fifth-year option in 2026.
Players this young, cheap, controllable, and good rarely become available at any position, let alone at one as important as a pass rusher. While the Jets likely wouldn't get a first-round pick, they could potentially get a second if the market drives up the price.
A Johnson trade might be more likely than it seems, especially if Glenn doesn't envision him factoring into their long-term plans, and the return for Johnson at the deadline is worth moving him in-season.
Both Hall and Johnson are two of the more intriguing trade deadline options this season for teams around the NFL, and the Jets are receiving plenty of inquiries about both as the deadline approaches. The only question left is whether they swing a deal or not.
