Borussia Dortmund slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash between the two familiar rivals at the Allianz Arena.

After a disappointing first half, Niko Kovac’s men improved after the break, but it wasn’t enough to earn any points.

Below are our player ratings for the Dortmund players.

Borussia Dortmund Starting XI Player Ratings:

GK: Gregor Kobel - 6/10

Made several important saves to keep Dortmund in the game. Wasn’t able to react in time to Harry Kane’s header, but can’t be blamed for that. His distribution could have been sharper at times, though.

CB: Waldemar Anton - 5/10

Looked solid when Dortmund were sitting back, but his lack of pace was exposed at times most notably when Luis Diaz skipped past him to deliver the cross for Bayern’s second goal.

CB: Nico Schlotterbeck - 8/10

Calm and collected as always. Was involved whenever Dortmund looked to play the ball forward and made several impressive defensive interventions. His sliding tackle to deny Michael Olise a shot from a promising position in the second half was flawless.

CB: Niklas Süle - 4/10

Handed a surprise start in Dortmund’s three-man backline ahead of Ramy Bensebaini, he saw little of the ball but disposed of it efficiently when involved (94% pass accuracy). However, he failed to impose himself physically against Bayern’s attackers and was withdrawn at halftime without winning a single duel.

RWB: Julian Ryerson - 7/10

Picked up an early yellow card for complaining, which he could have done without. Worked tirelessly on the right-hand side and was heavily involved throughout the game, even in the first half when Dortmund struggled. Made a few technical errors, but his effort and determination were unquestionable. Provided the assist for Julian Brandt's goal.

CDM: Pascal Gross - 4/10

Very little involved in the first half, but stepped up slightly after the break, without being outstanding by any means. Finished the game with just one duel won from five and a passing accuracy of 72%.

LWB: Daniel Svensson- 6/10

Was tasked with the tough job of defending against Michael Olise and did a decent job, showing smart defensive awareness. Became more noticeable going forward after the break, delivering a few good crosses for the BVB strikers.

CM: Felix Nmecha - 5/10

Not the most noticeable player in the game, but often disposed of the ball well. Also won a decent number of duels.

CM: Marcel Sabitzer - 4/10

Very anonymous performance from the Austrian international you almost forgot he was on the pitch at times. Subbed off for Bellingham after 73 minutes.

ST: Serhou Guirassy - 5/10

Lost the aerial duel with Harry Kane for the opener and saw very little of the ball in the first half. Became more involved after the break, with his standout moment coming when he unselfishly set Karim Adeyemi up for a big chance.

ST: Karim Adeyemi - 5/10

Didn’t succeed with everything, but was arguably Dortmund’s biggest threat while on the pitch thanks to his pace and energetic play. Missed a big chance before being taken off.
