Barcelona star admits he and teammates ‘all laughed’ when teammate came on vs Girona

Barcelona youngster Toni Fernández has admitted that he and several other Blaugrana stars were left amused by the words of teammate Ronald Araújo prior to his entry to the pitch on Saturday.

This came after the Uruguayan assured that he would go on to net the game’s winning goal.

Barcelona were of course back in action this afternoon, playing host to neighbours Girona in a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, the day’s hosts secured a much-needed return to winning ways, courtesy of a 2-1 result.

And it was the aforementioned Ronald Araújo who proved himself difference-maker.

Thrown into the fray in a centre-forward berth late on, the defender proved manager Hansi Flick right, courtesy of an injury-time winner.

And if the latest comments on the part of Toni Fernández are anything to go by, then Araújo appears to have had full confidence in his ability make such an impact prior to being introduced.

Speaking to the media post-match, youngster Toni, fresh off his La Liga debut, admitted:

“Before Araújo came on, he said: ‘I’m going in as a number 9, and I’m going to score.’ We all laughed on the bench… but that’s exactly what happened when he came on.”
