Barcelona set to appeal against Hansi Flick’s second yellow card – report

Hansi Flick has faced a lot of flak for his behaviour during Barcelona’s win over Girona, with the German notably being sent off at the end.

He picked up two back-to-back yellow cards in quick succession, which would mean that the Barcelona manager will not be available at the touchline when the Catalans take on Real Madrid next weekend.

This comes as a huge blow for Barcelona, especially at a time when Flick’s tactical expertise and ability to motivate players could be useful against Real Madrid.

Barcelona to appeal against Flick’s yellow card

According to RAC1, Barcelona are set to file an appeal against the second yellow card that led to Flick’s expulsion against Girona.

The Catalan club will present formal allegations to the Competition Committee in an attempt to rescind the second booking, which would allow Flick to return to the touchline for next weekend’s El Clasico.

Flick was shown his first yellow card for sarcastically applauding a referee’s decision during the game, and his second came moments later when he protested against the four minutes of added time that were announced, despite several stoppages and substitutions.

Barcelona believe that Flick’s reaction did not warrant a second yellow card and are hopeful the disciplinary committee will take into account the context of the situation before issuing a final decision.

The club view this as an important step given the magnitude of the upcoming clash against Real Madrid, where Flick’s absence could be felt deeply.

While Flick watched the final minutes against Girona from the stands, his potential suspension for El Clasico would leave the coaching duties to his assistant, Marcus Sorg, although it will be interesting to see if Thiago Alcantara gets a chance on the touchline as well.
