VfL Wolfsburg’s losing streak extended to four Bundesliga games on Saturday, as Die Wölfe were comprehensively beaten 0-3 by VfB Stuttgart.

The defeat adds to the pressure on head coach Paul Simonis, but Wolfsburg sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz made it clear that his position is not under discussion.

“This isn’t a discussion to be had about the coach, but about every individual who was on the pitch. Everyone needs to be self-critical enough to admit that we didn’t deliver the individual performances required to compete against a team like VfB Stuttgart,” Schindzielorz said in a post-match interview.

Wolfsburg’s poor run of form has seen them plummet to 15th in the table with just five points from seven games.

“This is a situation we urgently need to improve. We desperately need points,” Schindzielorz added.

“We were helpless from the first to the last minute. We were often chasing the game and never managed to put any pressure on them. VfB were very dominant. In the end, it was an absolutely deserved defeat even by the scoreline.”

Simonis himself acknowledged the mounting pressure, but remains optimistic.

“That’s understandable. But I still see plenty of potential. It’s up to us to react as quickly as possible.”
