Bayern Munich continued their flawless start to the Bundesliga season with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in a tense edition of Der Klassiker at the Allianz Arena.
The result keeps Vincent Kompany’s side firmly on top of the table with a perfect record of seven wins from seven matches.
The hosts took control early on and dominated much of the first half. Their pressure told midway through the opening period when Harry Kane rose highest to meet Joshua Kimmich’s pinpoint corner, nodding Bayern into a deserved lead after 22 minutes.
Dortmund, without injured captain Emre Can and struggling to keep possession, offered little threat before the break. However, they improved markedly after the restart as former Bayern coach Niko Kova? urged his side forward in search of an equaliser.
Just as the visitors began to build momentum, Bayern struck again. A costly slip from Jobe Bellingham deep inside his own box gifted Michael Olise an easy finish to double the home side’s advantage midway through the second half.
There was late drama when Julian Brandt, introduced only moments earlier, deflected Julian Ryerson’s cross past Manuel Neuer to pull one back in the 84th minute. Dortmund pressed in the closing stages but were unable to find a second goal as Bayern’s defence held firm.
The victory keeps Bayern three points clear at the top with 21 points from seven games, while Dortmund drop to fourth after suffering their first defeat of the season.
