Columbus will host Game 2. The first round runs from Oct. 24 to Nov. 9, and the series schedule is likely to be announced by the end of the night Oct. 18.
Cincinnati won the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference after defeating CF Montreal 3-0 Oct. 18 in the regular-season finale. Columbus (14-8-12, 54 points) rose up out of the wild-card play-in match to seventh place after a 3-1 win over the New York Red Bulls combined with a 4-2 loss by Orlando in Toronto, and a 2-1 loss by Chicago in New England.
Cincinnati lost 4-2 to Columbus at home July 12 and drew 1-1 with the Crew May 17 at Lower.com Field.
They have met once before in the MLS playoffs, when Columbus won 3-2 in the 2023 Eastern Conference final at TQL Stadium.
Chicago and Orlando will play in the wild-card play-in match this week, with the winner facing top seed Philadelphia in the first round.
Charlotte and New York City Football Club will meet as the No. 4 seed vs. the No. 5. Nashville is the sixth seed and plays No. 3 seed Miami.
