The Georgia Bulldogs' leading receiver, Colbie Young, has been ruled out with a fractured leg. "It's not good," UGA coach Kirby Smart said.
ATHENS, Ga. - Georgia Bulldogs senior wide receiver Colbie Young suffered a serious injury during Georgia's 43-35 win over the Ole Miss Rebels. Young hauled in one catch for 36 yards against Ole Miss before exiting do to a leg injury.
"Yeah, I should know what it is," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after the game. "It's not good. It's a fracture down there. It's broken. I can't remember if it was tibia or fibula. I don't know which one. But it's not good."
A broken tibia or fibula would likely rule Young out for the season. Young's loss is a major blow for the Georgia wide receiver room. Entering the Ole Miss game, Young was Georgia's leading receiver with 22 receptions for 300 receiving yards and one touchdown.
With Young out, Georgia will rely more on receivers Zachariah Branch, London Humphreys and Dillon Bell. Georgia's receiver depth has already been compromised a bit with freshman Talyn Taylor out due to an upper body injury.
Georgia could feature tight ends more with Young out. Additionally, we'd expect receiver Noah Thomas to take over Young's role as a possession receiver in the Georgia offense.
Another aspect that Young's injury impacts is leadership. Young is one of Georgia's top leaders on the team.
The Bulldogs will have time to adjust with Young out since they are now on their bye week. Georgia's next game is on Nov. 1 against the Florida Gators.
