Unstoppable Bayern 'want to win the next 11 too'

Harry Kane's monster block in stoppage time, after a first-half goal, symbolised Bayern Munich's mentality in their record breaking season start. Bayern's 2-1 over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday was their 11th straight victory since the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

That saw them draw level for a German record with Dortmund who had won their first 11 games across all competitions in 2015.

Bayern can get sole possession of the record in mid-week against Club Brugge in the Champions League, and as far as coach Vincent Kompany is concerned, the winning run could go on forever.

Hunger for more

"Credit to the team that we’ve won the first 11 games, but obviously I want to win the next 11 too. And then the next 11 after that," Kompany said.

Striker Kane meanwhile spoke of "one of the best games" of his entire career, where he headed the opening goal but also worked hard for the team and at the back, highlighted by his crucial late block against Fabio Silva to preserve the lead and the winning run.

Kompany named the first half "almost perfect" and praised "a cohesive team effort" through which Bayern withstood an improved Dortmund side after the break in a pulsating Klassiker between the title rivals.

Resilience praised

“It was very important to win this match – also in the manner in which we did it," midfielder and Germany captain Joshua Kimmich said.

"We didn’t just impress with our football but also as a team. You saw that we dig in, that we fight against resistance."

England skipper Kane, who tops the Bundesliga with 12 goals and has 22 overall for the season, struck a similar note.

"There was a lot at stake – momentum in particular. We often talk about maintaining this momentum, pushing on and wanting to win every match. And that’s exactly what we’re doing at the moment," he said.

Big ambitions

Title holders Bayern are five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga after just seven matchdays, and also have big ambitions in the Champions League and the German Cup - with their last titles there dating back to the treble-winning 2019-20 season.

"The nice thing is that we can still get even better. We’re on a good path and we want to carry on the way we are," full back Konrad Laimer said.

Munich unstoppable?

Dortmund midfielder Pascal Gross admitted it will be tough for anyone to stop the Munich machine.

"When you look at how consistent Bayern are, how dominant they are in winning games and how many goals they score, it’s not good. You don’t get the feeling at the moment that they’re going to drop many points," Gross said.
