Roma “Flew Too Close To The Sun” As Inter Milan Emerge Victorious To Bring Them Back Down To Earth

Roma have been described as like Icarus in the Italian media as Cristian Chivu and his Inter Milan’s “titanium armour” give them the three points in a 1-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico.

Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, painted a vivid image of Roma’s defeat at the Olimpico, describing Gasperini’s side as “Icarus, wings of wax and feathers, flying too close to the sun.”

Inter, by contrast, were labelled a “titanium armour” – solid and unshakeable in the key moments.

The message was simple: Inter brought Roma back down to earth

According to the paper, Roma were “transparent in the first half” and collapsed on Inter’s first real strike.

With Ange-Yoan Bonny exploiting a disastrous defensive line after Nicolo Barella’s perfectly-timed vertical ball.

Roma later pushed hard, playing what the Corriere called “a Garibaldian second half.”

However, their reaction “never truly pierced Inter’s structure.”

Even during the final siege, Sommer was rarely threatened.

Meanwhile, Inter “won duels, held their ground, and never showed real cracks.”

The turning point, the Corriere insists, came in the tactical battle:

In the first half, Inter dominated the Giallorossi and made Gasperini’s side uncomfortable in possession.

Chivu’s players occupied every blade of grass, swarming the ball with two or three men whenever Roma tried to play vertically.

Inter refused the temptation to dictate possession.

This therefore allowed Roma the ball only to tear it away at the right moment.

“It should be shown in coaching schools,” wrote the paper, calling it a pressing masterclass.

Roma improved with Dovbyk’s entrance, allowing Dybala to play as a true trequartista.

However, the late flashes “all made in Paulo” brought no equaliser.

For the Corriere, the experiment of the false nine was a failure.

Furthermore, the reality was unavoidable: Inter’s armour held and they have shown title credentials once again.
