Players of the game for Penn State against Iowa

There were some standout performances for the Nittany Lions on both sides of the ball despite a tough loss

In Penn State's fourth straight loss, there were a lot of things that were off. Ethan Grunkemeyer looked uncomfortable against a formidable Iowa defense. On the other side of the ball, Penn State could simply not stop the run, especially when Iowa QB Mark Gronowski was able to take off with the ball. Still, there were some performances that suggested Penn State gave the Hawkeyes all the fight they could. Here are the players of the game for the Nittany Lions after a tough loss.

Offensive Player of the Game: Kaytron Allen

Stats: 28 carries, 145 yds, 2 TDs

Kaytron Allen definitely ran like a man on fire tonight, and Penn State's loss was almost certainly not on him. Whenever the offense needed a spark, Allen was there to set the tone and pick up key yardage. In fact, one could say he was the ENTIRE Penn State offense tonight as Grunkemeyer really didn't get anything going through the air and Singleton was yet again quiet. In order for the Nittany Lions to have any sense of an offensive identity, they need Allen to be the bell cow in this offense. He was exactly that tonight, but unfortunately, didn't get much support from his teammates.

Defensive Player of the Game: Zakee Wheatley

Stats: 10 tackles, 9 solo, 1 INT

Zakee Wheatley at the very least did something no one had done for the Nittany Lions in two weeks: record an interception. His pick on the first Iowa drive of the game somewhat set the tone for the offense, but his effort unfortunately was not rewarded. He seemed to be the only Penn State defensive player who ahd his head in this game, helping trying to stop the run and making tackles left and right. At the very least, a secondary player showed life for the Nittany Lions.
