Baker Mayfield Picks, Predictions & Best Bets for Monday Night Football

Our Baker Mayfield picks expect the MVP contender to keep balling against the Lions on Monday Night Football.

We have two games to look forward to on Monday, the pick of which sees the Tampa Bay Buccaneers facing the Detroit Lions, two teams with winning records, with the 5-1 Bucs looking to continue their hot streak. Our focus here isn’t the game itself but the man behind Tampa Bay's success: quarterback Baker Mayfield.

I’ve taken a long look at the Baker Mayfield odds to find the very best ways for you to get back the Buccaneers quarterback on Monday Night Football.

Baker Mayfield best bet: Over 244.5 passing yards (-110 at bet365)

Through seven weeks, Baker Mayfield has been among the very best in the NFL and is a frontrunner for the MVP award. He’s led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 5-1 record, despite missing several key contributors.

The good news for Mayfield is that one of those stars is returning this weekend, and the addition of Mike Evans to a receiving corps that might be missing Emeka Egbuka is a huge boost.

Through six games, this Detroit Lions defense has given up an average of 212.7 passing yards per game, which is a number that puts them in the middle of the pack. The defense as a whole is good and ranks inside the Top 10 per defensive DVOA, but it does give up passing yards.

The Bucs’ success has been driven by not only Mayfield’s desire and will to win, but his arm, with the former Oklahoma man forcing the football at times. He’s currently averaging 256.5 passing yards per game and seems to be heating up, averaging 308 yards per game over his last three despite facing three good units in the Eagles, Seahawks, and 49ers.

Facing good teams forced Mayfield to use his arm, and given the Lions are 5.5-point favorites, we'll likely see more of the same on Monday.

Mike Evans anytime touchdown

In addition to the best bet, we’re backing Mayfield to keep up his good turnover record this season and not record an interception. He’s only thrown one pick all season, which came against the Eagles in Week 4.

We’re also backing the returning Mike Evans to find paydirt. This is a player who's scored 14 and 12 touchdowns over the past two seasons and offers a big body threat against the Lions. He has a team-high five red zone targets, the same as Emeka Egbuka, despite only playing three of six games so far this season.
