A bad Tennessee Titans season got worse on Sunday.

With the New England Patriots and former head coach Mike Vrabel in town, the Titans lost their best player to injury. Three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons left the first half of the game with a hamstring injury.

The Titans then ruled him out in the second. The extent of the injury isn't clear, but hamstrings can linger and end up being multi-week injuries.

The injury takes place in the first week under interim Titans coach Mike McCoy, who took over the Tennessee locker room after the franchise fired head coach Brian Callahan on Monday. T

ennessee got off to a relatively hot start on Sunday with a 10-3 first quarter lead. But the Patriots opened the game up from there and held a 31-13 third-quarter when Simmons was ruled out.
