Big 12 title game predictions after a couple significant Week 8 results

As Colorado hits its bye week, our writers make updated Big 12 title game predictions with a few different matchups making the cut.

The Colorado Buffaloes had to sit back and watch the Week 8 college football slate as they had their first bye week of the season.

However, it makes for the perfect time in the season to dive into some midseason roundtable questions about the 2025 Buffs and, perhaps more importantly, the Big 12 Conference as a whole.

Deion Sanders' squad is 3-4 overall with a 1-3 Big 12 record and is coming off its best performance of the season, an upset win over a ranked Iowa State team. It has been far from perfect, but Colorado is seemingly putting it together with five games left to play.

We already picked our midseason most valuable players, surprises and disappointments. Now we move on to our more general rest of the season predictions, including our updated Big 12 title game predictions.

Here are the teams we expect in the Big 12 title game after Week 8 action.

Championship matchup: Texas Tech vs. Arizona State

Once again, the Big 12 title race looks like it will come down to the wire. I do feel strongly that Texas Tech will be one of the teams meeting in Arlington in December, but as to which team faces them remains a significant question mark. BYU, Cincinnati, and Utah are all reasonable bets. Still, I think I am leaning towards picking the reigning champion Arizona State to make the title game in back-to-back seasons.

After Kenny Dillingham and the Sun Devils impressively took down the Red Raiders at home, their schedule lines up nicely to win out and possibly finish the regular season with just one conference loss. ASU's toughest remaining test seems to be a Week 10 road tilt against Iowa State, which is not saying much, considering the Cyclones' recent form.

Sign me up for a rematch of Arizona State-Texas Tech to decide who gets the automatic bid into the College Football Playoff.
