Morocco Stun Argentina: Atlas Cubs lead 2-0 at Half-Time in historic U20 World Cup final
The dream is very close for Morocco’s U20 national team. The Atlas Cubs delivered breathtaking 1st half performance to take 2-0 lead over Argentina in the final of the FIFA U20 World Cup edging closer to 1 of the greatest moments in African football history.
Zabeiri Shines on the Biggest Stage
Morocco struck first in the 12th minute through Yassir Zabiri who curled sensational free kick past goalkeeper Sanatino Barbi to give the North Africans the perfect start.
Zabeiri doubled the lead in the 29 minute finishing off brilliant cross from Othmane Maamma with clinical precision.
Argentina had never conceded more than one goal in any of their 7 previous U20 World Cup final.
Morocco Take Control
Argentina coach Diego Placente was forced into an early tactical change withdrawing Valentino Acuna for Mateo Silvetti in the 34 minute in bid to regain control.
Silvetti nearly made immediate impact in stoppage time breaking through on goal only to drag his shot just wide.
The Albiceleste came even closer moments later but defender Juan Villalba denied Othmane Maamma a potential 3rd for Morocco with last ditch clearance off the line.
