Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton just took part in one of the wildest games in the history of the franchise, which saw the team stumble along through three quarters before exploding for 33 points in the fourth quarter to stun the New York Giants

With the win, the Broncos improve to 5-2 on the season and currently sit atop the standings in the AFC West following their fourth straight victory.

Though plenty of negative questions were surely lined up for Payton had the Broncos lost this game, that come-from-behind win created a completely different post-game narrative. When addressing the media, Payton shared some thoughts on the Giants' QB situation.

"They found a little spark with that quarterback. I was talking to John Mara (Giants owner) not too long ago and I said we were hoping that that change would have happened long after our game", said Payton.

What he is referencing there is that he was hoping that the Giants wouldn't choose to make Jaxson Dart their starter until after the two teams played. In saying that, Payton is describing that he would have preferred to play against his former quarterback, Russell Wilson.

It is no secret that Payton and Wilson did not see eye to eye during their lone season together in Denver, which saw Wilson benched toward the end of that season in favor of Jarrett Stidham. Wilson began this season as the starter for the Giants but that lasted just three games and the switch was made to Dart. That has proven to be a great decision, and one that has a good chance of saving Brian Daboll his job as the Giants' head coach.

Dart threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns while running for another one against the Broncos on Sunday, showing himself to be a future star in the league. Payton knows the Broncos dodged a bullet in this one, but he'll take it.
