J.F. Webb (N.C.) tailback ties state record for single game rushing TDs

From a week the featured many great rushing performances from running backs around the country, one tailback was able to tie a state record over in North Carolina on Friday night.

J F Webb (N.C.) tailback Mikelis Hobgood rushed for eight touchdowns, tying a North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) single game record, in a 64-19 victory over Cedar Ridge last week. Hobgood also rushed for 384 yards on 22 carries in the historic performance.

Hobgood now shares the state record with six other players who have also accomplished the feat as well. According to HighSchoolOT, the other six running backs that have also scored eight touchdowns in a NCHSAA game Harnett Central’s Mike Hill (2003), Northern Guilford’s T.J. Logan (2012), West Montgomery’s Jo Leake (2016), Pamlico County’s Savone Tutt (2019), North Moore’s Justis Dorsett (2021), and South View’s Rashad Dockery just last year.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound tailback has put up some huge numbers through the first eight games of the season for J.F. Webb. Hobgood this season has rushed for 1,337 yards on 110 carries and found the endzone 19 times.

The Warriors take the field two more times before the NCHSAA postseason begins, with games remaining versus Seaforth and South Granville, respectively.
