TOPEKA (KSNT) – It’s hockey season, and Stormont Vail Events Center had its first free skate ice time with the Topeka Scarecrows on Sunday.
With the team bringing hockey back to Topeka, many young hockey fans want to learn the game. In the past, the closest rink was all the way in Kansas City; now it’s down the street.
“When I was like growing up, I guess, there were the Pilots here, and then when I started playing hockey, they weren’t here anymore,” Scarecrows fan Piper Quick said. “So, there wasn’t a team in Topeka or anything, so I’ve been going to Kansas City since I was little.”
“Just to stay with it every day and keep working at it, it takes a long time, but once you get it, it gets easy to get better,” Thomas Murphy said.
The scarecrows’ next home game is Halloween night.
