Rangers continue their chaotic head coach search, with the Gers scrambling to salvage a disappointing season at the Ibrox Stadium.
Danny Rohl is once again in the frame to become the new Rangers boss after negotiations with Kevin Muscat collapsed over the weekend, per Sky Sports News.
The 36-year-old has reportedly impressed the Rangers hierarchy during talks in London last week.
Rohl had initially withdrawn from the process after being told others were ahead of him in the running to replace Russell Martin.
However, talks between Rangers and Muscat broke down, and Rohl is now back in contention.
Rohl is currently out of work after leaving Sheffield Wednesday, where he was lauded as a ‘highly confident, top manager who had a winning mindset from his first meeting.’
The German tactician impressed US-based decision-makers Andrew Cavenagh and Paarag Marathe with his tactical approach and modern coaching ideas.
Rangers’ search for a successor became serious after sentimental favourite Steven Gerrard withdrew due to the timing not being right for a Glasgow return.
Muscat, who had already started identifying potential backroom staff, failed to reach an agreement with Rangers despite being seen as a frontrunner.
His exit from the process has opened the door for Rohl’s possible appointment, which could even arrive before Thursday’s Europa League clash with Brann Bergen.
For now, under-19 coach Steven Smith remains in interim charge, having overseen the weekend’s 2-2 draw with Dundee United.
However, Light Blues supporters have been left bewildered by the ongoing managerial merry-go-round at the club and rightly so.
The Rangers hierarchy has turned what should have been a decisive, forward-thinking process into a muddled embarrassment.
With Celtic looking far from their best this season, The Gers should be tightening their grip on the title race, not fumbling through interviews.
Instead, they’ve let Hearts creep into contention while dithering on basic footballing leadership.
It’s an unforgivable failure of ambition from a board that seems to have learned nothing from past chaos.
