CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Canfield middle-school golf phenom Preston Tolnar has qualified for the 2026 Hurricane Junior Cup team, which features the best young golfers in the country.
“Muscle memory. I just think of getting it down the fairway and then start it from there,” said Tolnar.
Tolnar qualified by a title win in the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour National Championships Boys 10-11 Division in Orlando, Florida. This tournament features the best young golfers from across the world.
The Canfield native set the tournament record of -7 under par at the National Course in Champions Gate Resort. He shot a 70, 67 – 135 through two rounds.
In the win, Tolnar is now a back-to-back champion of the HJGT. The young golfer also won the prestigious tournament in 2024.
“It felt great. It felt good to win there again, especially in Florida,” said Tolnar.
Tolnar said he changed his putter a day before the tournament, and it did wonders.
“Felt way more square off the face, and I was going straight down my line, felt like every putt was falling in,” said Tolnar.
He will now lead the USA Northern States against the Southern States in the Hurricane Junior Cup.
“I just think of the team winning, but there’s also an individual part with it. So, I want myself to do good, but I also want the team to do good as well,” said Tolnar.
The team-based tournament starts in January 2026 at the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida.
