Pirates Prospect Update: MLB.com names Konnor Griffin top 19-year-old prospect

Just another way to say Konnor Griffin is the best!

The top prospect in Major League Baseball, Konnor Griffin, has found himself on another list. MLB.com ranked their top prospects aged 16-25, and Griffin was named the top 19-year-old prospect in baseball.

The decision came pretty easy considering the kind of breakout season Griffin had in 2025. He came out of the 2024 draft as the top high school talent in the pool, with an exceptionally high ceiling. With that being said there were scouts who had questioned his bat skills and his defensive capabilities as an everyday short stop.

All of those questions were answered and any doubts were silenced the second Griffin made his professional debut.

“The Mississippi native answered lingering questions about his hit tool and shortstop defense while continuing to display double-plus speed and impact power,” writes MLB.com contributor Ben Weinrib. “He’ll have a chance to make his big league debut before his 20th birthday on April 24 as a 30/30 threat for years to come.”

Leo DeVries of the Athletics was the runner-up to Griffin.

In his first professional season Griffin exploded onto the scene. The 19-year-old standout finished with a slash line of .333/.415/.942 across three teams (Bradenton, Greensboro, Altoona). He had 21 home runs, 94 RBIs and 65 stolen bases.

Griffin is already playing like a seasoned pro, and brought home enough hardware to feel like one too. He won 12 awards this season, with the MiLB Gold Glove Award, USA Today Minor League Player of the Year and Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year being just a few that he was awarded.

There is a very real shot that Griffin could make his MLB debut before he turns 20-years-old, especially considering the level he’s already playing at as the top prospect in baseball.
