DLLS Texas Rangers Podcast: 2026 payroll remains unclear after GM meetings

The Texas Rangers know that they will have less money to spend this offseason and into 2026. Owner Ray Davis doesn’t want to go over the competitive balance threshold again, and he is also guarding against the lost revenue from the TV deal. As the offseason kicks off in earnest, president of baseball operations Chris Young is still not sure what the payroll will be. Money can be saved by non-tendering Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim on Nov. 21 and by trading a big contract, like Marcus Semien. Young counters, though, that those high-dollar players are the Rangers’ best players. Something will have to give. Young will have to get creative. Young players and returning players will have to improve. The Rangers think they have a plan in place that will change their offense while sticking to the same pitching principles that worked so well in 2025.
