Who is Michigan's interim coach after Sherrone Moore was fired?

Sherrone Moore's tenure at the University of Michigan has come to a tumultuous end. After surviving the Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal and serving as the team's acting head coach while Jim Harbaugh was suspended, the former Oklahoma lineman and Wolverines tight ends coach/offensive coordinator was promoted to the top job in 2024.

In 2025, he lost it. Moore guided Michigan to a solid 9-3 record this fall, but was terminated Wednesday with cause after an internal investigation uncovered an "inappropriate relationship" with a team staffer. It was a shocking twist for a program already accustomed to them and enough to send MGoBlog's servers crashing as die-hard fans reacted to the move.

Associate head coach Biff Poggi has been named the Wolverines' interim head coach while a late-to-the-party coaching search takes place in a picked-over market.

Who is Biff Poggi?

Poggi may be best known for his time as head coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. While he only guided the 49ers to a a 6-16 record before being relieved of his duties, he gained modest fame as "the coach who hates sleeves."

Tragically, Michigan has not allowed him to put on a gun show on its sideline, possibly because of woke. He was an analyst with the Wolverines in 2016, took a job coaching high school football from 2017 to 2020, then served as Harbaugh's associate head coach in 2021 and 2022 before taking the Charlotte job. He'd served as associate head coach this fall before being thrust into the interim top job for the team's Citrus Bowl showdown with Texas.

Poggi is 66 years old and has only two years at the coordinator level or higher among the college ranks. He is not expected to be a serious candidate for Michigan's full-time head coaching job. However, you can't rule anything out entirely this late in the coaching cycle.
