Ferguson becomes third Irishman to score for Italian club in UEFA competition

With his first-half brace at Celtic Park, Evan Ferguson wrote a small chapter in Irish football history in European competitions.

As reported by statistics portal Opta, the Roma striker became the third Irish player ever to score for an Italian club in a major UEFA competition.

Before him, only two Irishmen had achieved the feat: Liam Brady, who scored once for Juventus and six for Inter, and Robbie Keane, who scored once for Inter.

Ferguson, however, went further: with his two goals against Celtic, he became the first Irish player ever to score multiple goals for an Italian club in Europe.

A small achievement for the young striker, who thus takes pride of place on the podium of Irish goalscorers in Italy.
