Chris Brazzell declares for NFL Draft, opts out of bowl

He shouldn’t have to wait too long for his name to be called.

Chris Brazzell is NFL bound, he announced today on social media. The All-SEC performer had a breakout season as a junior, becoming a huge downfield threat for Tennessee. Brazzell, as expected, also opted out of the upcoming Music City Bowl.

The 6-5 receiver led the SEC in receiving yard with 1,107. Brazzell scored nine times, averaging 16.7 yards per catch. The former Tulane transfer flashed as a sophomore last season, but really benefitted from Tennessee’s uptick in downfield passing with Joey Aguilar under center. Aguilar trusted Brazzell — perhaps more than he should at times — but more times than not, Brazzell made the play.

His long frame, speed and body control likely will come off board pretty early in the draft. As always though, his evaluation will be interesting coming out of Josh Heupel’s offense.

Brazzell has been projected as highly as a first round pick to this point. He did not appear in Mel Kiper Jr.’s top 25 overall players today, but he did check in as the 7th ranked wide receiver.

Brazzell joins cornerback Jermod McCoy as the two Tennessee players that have declared so far. Colton Hood is expected to follow.

Assuming we don’t get any curveballs, Tennessee will potentially get a long look at Rara Jackson and/or Travis Smith Jr. in his place during the Music City Bowl.
