University of Michigan interim president Domenico Grasso has spoken out about the Sherrone Moore fiasco.
The former Michigan football coach was fired on Wednesday, Dec. 10 after an investigation found "credible evidence" that Moore had taken part in an "impermissible relationship" with another program staffer. On the same day Moore was fired, he was also arrested by Pittsfield Township Police on an assault investigation and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.
He has not been charged as of yet, but is expected to be arraigned on Friday, Dec. 12 in the 14-A district court.
"When the findings of a University investigation into Coach Moore's behavior were presented on Wednesday, we immediately terminated his employment," Grasso wrote in a letter to students and faculty, which was obtained by the Free Press. "There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan. None.
"I have been in close communication with the Board of Regents and we are united in committing to doing what is right."
Grasso called Moore's actions a "breach of trust" and said it is "painful for many in our community, first and foremost, the individuals directly involved. He continued that the university's "swift and decisive action" reflects its "staunch commitment to a campus culture of respect, integrity and accountability."
Grasso said in an effort to understand all the facts, the university will continue its investigation. Furthermore, he said, "I encourage anyone with information about this matter to confidentially contact [email protected]."
"I have tremendous faith in the University of Michigan and the principled work our faculty, staff and students carry out every day," Grasso wrote. "Together, we will move forward with integrity and excellence and reaffirm our dedication to serving the public good."
