The Navy uniform to be used for the 126th Army-Navy Game will honor the six original warships, notably the USS Constitution.
Navy football will honor the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy with special uniforms designed by Under Armour for the 126th Army-Navy Game on Saturday, Dec. 13, in Baltimore.
The famed warship USS Constitution — nicknamed Old Ironsides — is prominent in the designs. The USS Constitution is one of six original frigates and remains afloat in the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston as a training and ceremonial ship.
This year's "home" uniform has a washed navy color (a faded blue) used in the coats of the original sailors. The Stone color was used in the sails on the warship. The Nautical Navy color is symbolic of the hull color, and the Heritage Red color represents the cannon carriages lining the side of the warship.
Navy football: Uniform highlights
The Navy wordmark and number font are inspired by the typography in the "Act to Provide Naval Armament" document, which authorized the construction of the six original frigates. The sleeves and collar feature six total ropes, and within them are 250 knots to honor the Navy's anniversary. On the upper back of the jersey, the eagle and six stars mimic the decoration of the warship's stern. On the interior back neck is embroidered "USN250" for the Navy's anniversary.
For the sleeves, the American flag on the left arm represents the USS Constitution's unbeaten battle record, while the right arm has a "USN" monogram that ties back to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.
The stone pants have six ropes on each side of the pant, representing the six frigates and 126 knots for the 126th Army-Navy Game.
The helmet has a hand-painting of the USS Constitution over the left ear. The center stripe resembles a wooden plan with a nautical rope wrapping six times, also representing the USS Chesapeake, USS Congress, USS Constellation, USS President, USS United States and USS Constitution.
