Madleen Hussein hits game-winning shot for Flat Rock girls basketball while Summerfield girls and both boys and girls from Gibraltar Carlson win.
FLAT ROCK – Madleen Hussein had three chances to win the game.
She cashed in on the last one.
Her free-throw with .5 seconds left to give Flat Rock’s girls basketball team a 47-46 victory over Woodhaven on Thursday, Dec. 11.
“We were fortunate to have the final possession and Madleen was fouled on a three-pointer,” Flat Rock coach Brian Kryk said. “She missed the first two free throws but stepped up and knocked down the last one.”
Hussein finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Layla Holbrook added 11 points and Brinley Carney had 7 points and 5 rebounds.
“Woodhaven has a very strong offensive attack, and they did an excellent job containing Madleen in the second half,” Kryk said. “With her being limited, several of our other players rose to the occasion and hit timely shots to keep us in it. We’re asking a lot of our entire group right now as we work through injuries, and today we got positive contributions from everyone.”
