PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Senior Dani Guedet scored 20 points to lead Washington to a 53-45 overtime win over Loyola Academy in showdown of undefeated girls basketball teams at Illinois Central College on Thursday.
Guedet hit two field goals while Mazzy O’Brien and Avery Tibbs each hit a pair of free throws in the overtime. The Panthers held Loyola scoreless in the OT, 8-0.
Tibbs scored 12 points for the Washington (9-0) which led by seven at halftime and grew the lead to nine in the fourth quarter. But Loyola (8-1) rallied and took a 45-43 lead on a driving basket by Emily Naraky with 0:24 left in regulation.
Tibbs’ driving lay-up in the final seconds tie the game at 45 and forced overtime. O’Brien scored 10 points for Washington, which finished third at state in class 3A last year.
Other girls basketball winners Thursday included Richwoods, Notre Dame and Dee-Mack. Boys basketball winners included Washington and Eureka.
