For the time being , the reaction is positive.
Picking the subjects of this week’s poll questions was a no-brainer. A defensive co-coordinator and an offensive line coach were let go, and their replacements were named fairly quickly. The questions? What are our initial impressions of the new hires? Rhule appeared to stay on the path of going outside and not hiring from his old coaching tree. And people seem ok with that for now.
And just for more complete honesty, in addition to thumbs up and thumbs down, there was a third option of too emotionally damaged to care.
- Thumbs up carried the day in a runaway with 77%. The majority seemed to care little about Rob Aurich’s short 1-year tenure as a defensivecoordinator or lack of P4/P5 experience – which means Husker fans have also noticed the success Group of 5 and below coaches have been having after moving up.
- Perhaps it’s a further show of confidence that the fans who identify as damaged or beset by Husker PTSDoutscored those who did not support the hire 16% to 7%.
- And if you thought fans were behind the Aurich hire, they’re even more all in on Geep Wade to the of 88% support. Perhaps some of it is stragglers still grumbling about Donovan Raiola despite a strong finish from the O-line, but I like to think they saw Wade’s 2025 numbers and his O-line physical build and thought, “That’ll do for now.”
- Emotional damage again took the silver medal with 10% still in therapy. Thumbs down on this hires? An almost non-existent 3%
As you may have heard, there was a bit of controversy regarding the final selections to the 12-team CFP and SBNation did a few national polls to check fans’ temps on the whole mess. Or was it that much of a mess?
Because if we’re honest, it feels like field expansions are usually in direct response to the bitching and moaning of the teams who did not get in. Sane folk basically understand it changes nothing. When the BCS moved from 2 to 4 teams, the yowls from the left-out 3rd-place team were replaced by soul-wrenching cries of #5.
And 2 years of a 12-team CFP have given way from the outrage of 3-loss Alabama in 2024 to 2025 and Notre Dame’s next-level screams of the damned when being pushed aside for Miami and oddly-in-the-field-this-year…3-loss Alabama. Notre Dame’s outraged shrieking took things up a notch as they suddenly found themselves on the wrong end of a weird decision after being given special considerations at every turn for over a 100 years.
Not shockingly, they reacted like a high-end restaurant Karen being told, “No, we do not have a table available – we require a reservation.”
The Notre Dame online screaming never said it specifically, but we all heard them in unison:
“DO YOU KNOW WHO IAM???!!!”?
Yeah, we do. And guys, you’re still a big deal, but simply not the draw you used to be. And join a conference.
But anyway – here you go:
