2x NWSL Champion Midge Purce signs new one-year contract with NJ/NY Gotham FC

Purce will play another season with the club she won two championships with.

After winning her second NWSL title with NJ/NY Gotham FC this year, Midge Purce is back. The star forward signed a new contract with the Gotham in free agency through 2026, the club announced on Friday.

“Let’s run it back,” said Purce.

Purce was the MVP in Gotham’s 2023 championship win, where she contributed two assists and led the club to their first NWSL title. Although she suffered an ACL injury that caused her to miss the majority of the 2024 season, she came back in 2025 and helped lead the club to their second title. She also won the CONCACAF W Champions Cup with Gotham this year, the North American club championship.

“When I would picture what my year would look like on the field, I kept going back to, ‘I want to play another year with Gotham and I want to play another year with this team,’” Purce said in an interview with Women’s Health.

“Midge has been a driving force for our team both on and off the field,” said Yael Averbuch West, the general manager and head of soccer operations for Gotham FC. “Her commitment to our club and ability on the field make her an invaluable part of what we’re building, and we’re thrilled to have her continue with us.”

This year will be Purce’s seventh season with Gotham, after being traded from the Portland Thorns in 2020. Purce was originally drafted by the Boston Breakers in 2017 and played for Harvard in college.

Internationally, Purce has made 30 appearances for the USWNT and  won two tournaments with the team, the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship and the 2024 W Gold Cup.

Outside of soccer, Purce serves on the Board of Overseers at Harvard and is the co-creator of The Offseason television show.
