Indiana keeps its defensive coordinator with a new contract set to make him one of the highest paid assistants in the nation.
One of the top defensive coaches in the country is staying in Bloomington.
Indiana and Bryant Haines, the Hoosiers’ defensive coordinator, have agreed to terms on a new contract that is set to make him one of the highest-paid assistant coaches in all of college football, per reporting from Matt Zenitz, a senior reporter with CBS Sports.
Haines, a strong candidate for this season’s Broyles Award, received interest from other programs but is set to stay with Indiana. He’d previously come to a similar agreement following the conclusion of the historic 2024 season, he and Curt Cignetti’s first with the program.
Under his previous contract, Haines was already one of the highest-paid assistants in the country, with a starting salary of $2 million per year through the 2027 season. Just a handful of assistants were in that salary range during the 2024 season.
Indiana ranks fifth nationally in total defense in 2025, sixth in yards allowed per game, and second (just behind Big Ten runner-up Ohio State) in offensive touchdowns allowed, with 12.
