Well, there’s a headline I never would have figured I’d write. NC State men’s soccer is going to play for its first-ever national championship after beating Saint Louis 2-1 on Friday night. NC State controlled a lot of the play, and it got a little nervy after the Billikens saved a penalty kick in the second half with the score still 0-0, but the Pack ultimately came through and sent a big partisan crowd home happy.
Not surprisingly, both Donavan Phillip and Taig Healy were involved in the scoring when it finally came.
Absolute scenes, as they say. That environment was awesome, and it was great to see these guys rewarded with a huge crowd to cheer them on. Not that I expected anything else. Nearly 11,000 people were there to witness NC State’s win, marking the largest crowd for a men’s College Cup game since 2012. Great work, everybody.
Now let’s do it all over again on Monday night against Washington.
