Who crashed the most during the 2025 MotoGP season?

The 2025 MotoGP world championship concluded last month in Valencia, with Marc Marquez clinching his seventh premier class title. Now, during the winter break before 2026 begins with the Sepang test in early February, it’s time to look back at the season that just ended.

One way to gauge how comfortable a rider has been on their bike is to look at the number of crashes recorded over the course of a season. This year, MotoGP held a record 22 grands prix, with sprints taking the total number of races up to 44. As a result, crash numbers have increased compared to previous seasons, particularly among the leading riders. Below is a breakdown of how many incidents each MotoGP rider suffered this year.

As one can see from the table, the rider who crashed the most in 2025 was LCR’s Johann Zarco. Although he scored a memorable win in the wet conditions at the French Grand Prix, Zarco’s second season at Honda’s satellite team was also plagued by a number of issues, and he totalled nearly 30 crashes on the RC213V.

Before Zarco, Honda’s Joan Mir held the unwanted record for the most crashes before the summer break, with 15 incidents between the Thai and Czech Grands Prix. However, the Spaniard’s results improved in the second half of the year, as he scored podiums at Motegi and Sepang, and he also reduced his crash rate, ending the season fifth in the “fall” rankings.

This left Jack Miller in second place on the Pramac Yamaha, as he occupied second place with 25 crashes - including one while running inside sixth in his home grand prix at Phillip Island.

Behind Miller, two Ducati riders, champion runner-up Alex Marquez and Franco Morbidelli, share third place with 23 trips to the gravel each. All three of them were involved in more incidents compared to the previous year, although the increase in the number of rounds and races played a significant role.

In sixth position came Pedro Acosta, who crashed more times this year than any other rider in the KTM contingent. However, it is worth noting that he reduced his total from 28 crashes in his rookie season to 21 in 2025, despite the expanded calendar.

Jorge Martin, Aprilia Racing Team, Franco Morbidelli, VR46 Racing Team crash

Acosta was followed by Aprilia’s reference rider Marco Bezzecchi, who fell 19 times during the year - one more than in 2024 when he was riding a Ducati for VR46. Bezzecchi's team-mate Jorge Martin crashed only eight times in 2025, but many of those incidents proved costly for him.

Gresini newcomer Fermin Aldeguer was the rookie with the most crashes at 17, but he still suffered six fewer falls than his more experienced team-mate Alex Marquez. 

Within Ducati’s fold, Marc Marquez recorded 14 crashes during his first year at the factory team. However, his campaign was cut short after he suffered an arm injury in a crash triggered by Bezzecchi at the Indonesian Grand Prix, which forced him to miss the final four rounds of the season.

Marc Marquez’s team-mate Francesco Bagnaia suffered 11 falls during 2025, broadly in line with his career average, despite the Italian enduring what was arguably his most difficult MotoGP season.

Among the full-time riders, those who crashed the fewest times were VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio (five) and Honda ace Luca Marini (three). Marini hadn’t been in a single crash on a MotoGP bike in the first half of the season (excluding the injury he sustained while testing for the Suzuka 8 Hours), but his streak ended at the Malaysian Grand Prix when he tangled with KTM’s test rider Pol Espargaro.

As for the manufacturers, Ducati topped the standings with 95 total crashes, largely due to running six bikes. Yamaha ranked second with 66, followed closely by Honda (65), KTM (61) and Aprilia (55).
