The Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks are among the most sought-after NHL teams in the country when it comes to jersey interest, according to new research that highlights California as the top state for hockey merchandise demand.
A study conducted by Pulsz.com found that the Kings rank third nationally in average monthly jersey-related searches, while the Ducks placed sixth. Combined with the San Jose Sharks, California’s three NHL franchises generate more jersey interest than any other state in the U.S.
The research analyzed Google search data from July 2024 through June 2025, examining more than 40 jersey-related terms for all 32 NHL teams, including searches such as “[team] jersey,” “[team] jersey sale,” and “[team] alternate jersey.” In total, more than 1,000 unique search terms were evaluated to determine which teams draw the most consumer interest nationwide.
The Kings ranked third overall with an average of 15,621 monthly searches, trailing only the Minnesota Wild (24,593) and the Boston Bruins (16,765). Anaheim followed closely behind in sixth place with 13,207 searches per month, while the Sharks ranked 16th with 8,461 searches.
Together, the Kings, Ducks and Sharks account for 37,289 average monthly searches, the highest combined total for any state. All three California teams also outperformed every New York-based NHL team and all seven Canadian franchises in U.S. search volume.
Minnesota led the league in jersey interest despite not having won a Stanley Cup since 2008, while the Bruins ranked second as the highest-placed Original Six franchise. The St. Louis Blues (14,936) and Dallas Stars (13,774) rounded out the top five, followed by Anaheim at No. 6. The Washington Capitals, Florida Panthers, Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators completed the top 10.
A spokesperson for Pulsz.com said the findings underscore how regional appeal and branding often outweigh recent on-ice success when it comes to merchandise demand.
“These results highlight the strong regional appeal of hockey across America,” the spokesperson said. “The data reveals some surprising patterns, with recent on-ice success not necessarily translating to jersey popularity. What’s also interesting is how Canadian teams, despite their hockey traditions, generate relatively little jersey interest among American fans.”
Six of the seven Canadian teams ranked in the bottom 10 of U.S. jersey searches, further emphasizing the dominance of American franchises in merchandise interest.
