Serious injuries rule multiple Bayern Munich youth players out for months

There HAD to be more bad news.

There HAD to be some bad news, eh? Bayern Munich’s U-23s managed to end the year with a 3-0 win over SV Wacker Burghausen and closed the book on a poor year on a happy note. Or so it seemed, anyhow. Soon after the match, Bayern’s official website revealed that forward Tim Binder and goalkeeper Leon Klanac, both regular starters in the U-23s team, had suffered serious injuries and would be out for “multiple months.”

Binder had already missed the U-23s’ last three games with what was described as a knock, but clearly a different diagnosis lead to finding a much more serious problem. The website says that he is struggling with a foot injury.

As for Klanac, he played just a week ago at the time of writing but was missing for the win against Burghausen. He is dealing with a thigh injury.

This is technically the “best” time (if there is such a thing) for the players to get injured. The U-23’s winter break just started, with the youngsters’ next game taking place on February 20, which will give the players over two months to heal without missing any games in the Regionalliga. But this is still very unfortunate.

The players will have their holidays hampered by their injuries, will be forced to spend time doing rehab during vacation time and will miss out on the team’s preparation for the season’s restart. And after all of that, if Bayern’s estimated recovery time is to be believed, the duo will still not be fit by the time the season restarts. It is such a shame. Hopefully their recovery is as swift and simple as it can possibly be.
