Louisiana High School Football: No. 7 Edna Karr routs St. Augustine for state title

For a good majority of the Louisiana high school football season, the No. 7 nationally ranked Edna Karr Cougars have gone mostly unchallenged, outside of a couple games.

On Saturday afternoon, the Cougars finished the drill they had so many times before and that’s via a blowout.

Facing a St. Augustine squad that they faced back on Oct. 3, Edna Karr dominated the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Prep Classic’s Division I Select championship game at the Caesars Superdome.

The earlier meeting in the season between the Cougars and Purple Knights was a 42-21 decison, but the gap ended up being that much more between the two squads.

Edna Karr used a explosive 21-point second quarter to begin the rout of their rivals St. Augustine.

Though the Purple Knights would fight back in the third quarter and cut the lead to 28-14, Edna Karr used the final quarter of their season to play their best football. Edna Karr would have one last 21-point quarter in them to run away with the win.

What really stood out about the game was the impressive attendance for the state title game as a reported 34,500 fans turned out to the Superdome for the battle for New Orleans. Edna Karr running back Tre Garrison was named the game’s Most Valuable Player, rushing for a game-high 183 yards on 41 carries and a score.
