Post-match reaction from the boss
Enzo Maresca must have been feeling the heat a bit, after going without a win in four straight, matching his longest winless streak as Chelsea manager. Maybe not from his superiors, at least not directly, or even from the fans. And certainly not from his players … which would leave the media at large. You’re not supposed to read your own press, Enzo!
“It was a very important win. Everton were in good form in the last week with so it was important to win today’s game. I think we completely deserved to win the game and the effort from the players has been fantastic. […] I praise the players because with so many problems, they are doing very well after a complicated week.
“Since I joined the club, the last 48 hours have been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because many people didn’t support […] me and the team. [I mean people] in general [not the fans]; I love the fans and we are very happy with the fans.”

Picking a fight with the media is never a good idea or a winning proposition unfortunately — not even José Mourinho could win that in the end — but it could be useful in the short-term, especially if they’re adding more pressure on the team, which apparently they havee been doing at an increasing rate. In that case, good on Enzo to show a bit of fight.
But, at the end of the day, the only way to truly defeat such forces is to triumph on the pitch. Not just once. Not just twice. Every day. That’s the job.
