Twitter Gold: Grant Hill Embarrasses Scottie Pippen

Injuries robbed Hill of his best years, but he was an incredible basketball player.

Before injuries devastated his career and Grant Hill earned respect for working through things that would have forced most normal people to give up, he was one of the greatest talents the game has ever seen.

When he was still with the Detroit Pistons, Hill was widely seen as the eventual successor to Michael Jordan’s role as the best player in the league.

Obviously it didn’t work out that way, but we saw glimpses. One of the most famous came in his freshman year against Kansas in the Final Four when Bobby Hurley threw a pass that looked like it was absolutely heading over Hill’s head. He totally stunned announcer Billy Packer when he went up and got it anyway and slammed it home.

Then there was this play.

Hill is being guarded by Scottie Pippen, a freakish athlete who was not all that far behind teammate Michael Jordan.

Hill fakes him out of his shoes on this play, then takes it in for a dunk.

Somewhat like Bill Walton, we’ll never fully know what Hill could have been. What we did see, though, before his troubles started, was nothing short of brilliant.
