Neither Fernando Tatis Jr. or Fransico Lindor are part of the discussions
The MLB Winter Meetings have come and gone and the San Diego Padres did not do anything to address any of the team’s needs. Pitching, starting pitching, is the most definitive area of need for San Diego and to address that need, it appears Padres general manager A.J. Preller will turn to the trade market. Ironically, he is having conversations with the New York Mets, which include possibly trading starter Nick Pivetta who was dominant in his first year in San Diego. Pivetta, a few bullpen arms, including Mason Miller, and outfielder Ramon Laureano have all been discussed, but even with all the rumors about a trade swirling, nothing is imminent and there is no guarantee a trade between the two teams occurs.
Padres News:
- Considering the interest from other teams in Laureano, the Padres may need to add an outfielder. One possibility according to AJ Eustace of MLB Trade Rumors is Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. San Diego and at least two other teams have inquired about his availability.
Baseball News:
- Jorge Polanco and the New York Mets have agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal. The expectation is that he will play first base and DH after Pete Alonso signed with the Baltimore Orioles.
- Kenley Jansen has agreed to a one-year deal with the Detroit Tigers. The 16-year veteran will be the closer for Detroit.
- The New York Yankees signed utility man Amed Rosario to a one-year, $2.5 million deal.
- The Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee Brewers lined up on a trade that sent outfielder Isaac Collins and right-hander Nick Mears to the Royals in exchange for left-hander Angel Zerpa.
- The San Francisco Giants and the Seattle Mariners have been named the two teams most likely to make a trade with the St. Louis Cardinas for infielder Brendan Donovan. San Francisco is looking to bolster its lineup and Seattle could use Donovan to replace Polanco.
- While the Cardinals are possibly looking to trade away pieces, they also decided to add a pitcher, signing free agent Dustin May on a one-year deal.
