Travis Kelce’s gesture to Tony Jefferson’s ejection has fans talking

Travis Kelce’s viral gesture to the Chargers’ Tony Jefferson’s ejection has fans debating on social media. Authorities ejected Jefferson from the game in the second half after showing unnecessary roughness to Chiefs’ wide receiver Tyquan Thornton.

After the hit, Kelce and the other Chiefs players crowded around Jefferson, and the two teams nearly came to blows with each other. Authorities deemed Jefferson’s behavior inappropriate, and he was ejected from the game. In response, Kelce and Xavier Worthy waved Jefferson goodbye (via Athlon Sports).

Unsurprisingly, fans on X have reacted to the Chiefs’ tight end’s reaction to Jefferson’s ejection from the game. One fan wrote, “Taunting,” while another commented, “Click bait. They are obviously waving goodbye to the playoffs.”

A third fan questioned, “Hey @nfl  this seems like taunting and unsportsmanlike conduct. Or does it not count bcs it’s the (eliminated) Chiefs?” A fourth fan penned, “Then Tony Jefferson waving goodbye to the Chiefs playoff chances.”

Understandably upset, the Chiefs’ tight end walked out dejected after the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. He politely refused fans’ requests for autographs as he walked into the Chiefs’ dressing room with his head hung low. It will be the first time Kelce has missed the playoffs since 2014 (via Newsweek).

It was a special night for Kelce, as his parents, fiancée Taylor Swift, brother Jason Kelce, Jason’s wife Kylie, and their daughters attended the game. The Chiefs’ tight end still has time to decide whether to return next season, as there is significant buzz regarding his impending retirement.

In some good news, on December 4, the Chiefs announced that the selection committee had chosen Kelce as the club winner of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. Kelce thanked Chiefs’ management and fans in a heartfelt video message shared on X.
